Easy Songs For Bass Guitar

Just bought a bass guitar and now you want to start learning Rush and Red Hot Chili Pepper songs?  You could do that, but you could also try some of these songs that you’ll probably pick up a lot faster.

Start with some fun riffs

You don’t necessarily have to learn the whole song at first.  Try learning some riffs that are fun to play and then find an isolated drum track to play along with.  You can usually find these on YouTube if it’s a relatively well known song.

Peter Gunn

This is a great one because you can keep your fingers all in the same position at the second fret.

Peter Gunn Bass Line

Sunshine of Your Love

This is also an easy song for beginner bass guitar players to learn all the way through, but before you do that you can also just learn the first riff.

Sunshine of Your Love Bass Line

Jamie’s Crying

This is also a song that would be great to learn if you’re just getting started learning to play the bass.

And now . . . the list of easy bass guitar songs.

Here are my recommendations on songs to learn on bass.  Some are going to be more fun to play than others, but they should all be relatively simple.

  1. Roadhouse Blues by the Doors
  2. Peter Gunn (actually you learned the whole song when you learned the riff lol)
  3. Sunshine of Your Love by Cream
  4. Low Rider by War
  5. T.N.T by AC/DC
  6. Misty Mountain Hop by Led Zeppelin
  7. Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes
  8. Running With The Devil by Van Halen
  9. Money by Pink Floyd
  10. Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival

These songs are not in order from easiest to hardest.  I would say the easiest one is Bad Moon Rising, and then Roadhouse Blues and Peter Gunn since they are so repetitive.  Sunshine of Your Love is great to learn because it has a few different parts so it feels like you’re playing a complete song even if it is just you playing the bass part.  Songs like Bad Moon Rising are great to learn, but they aren’t as enjoyable to play by yourself.  I’d recommend trying to play along with the song, and if you play along with the Youtube video, you can use their settings to slow it down if you need to.
